Projects: BECTA

NAME has worked collaboratively with the British Educational Communications and Technology Agency (Becta) for a number of years. Following a three-year consultancy, NAME carried out shorter contracts to produce specific resources.  Becta is one of the organisations abolished by the Coalition Government and its website closes on 31 January 2011.     Becta has provided  the following materials, which include those developed in conjunction with NAME.  

The materials have been provided on a non-exclusive basis under the new Open Government License and the UK Government Licensing Framework to enable and encourage the free use of government information covered by Crown copyright and database rights.   All existing Becta copyright statements are superseded by this provision.   For further information see:

The one exception is any photography or video contained in the material.  Whilst this can be reproduced in its existing format and for the purpose for which it was designed, it cannot be repurposed in any format or medium.

The 21st Century Teacher

In March 2010 NAME was contracted by Becta to produce a description of the 21st century music teacher: ie, one which described how a music teacher utilises technology in all aspects of the teacher's role. The description had to cover how primary and secondary teachers of music employ technology in all areas of their roles.


Starter for 10

In autumn 2007 NAME was awarded a contract to provide two music ‘primers’ containing useful weblinks: a) Starter for 10 and b) Home Learning. The aim of Starter for 10 was to provide an ‘aide memoire’ to a secondary music teacher or other professional educator (eg. librarian, teaching support staff) containing a series of launching pads for subject discovery online. Hard to Teach

Following a request from Becta for proposals for the provision of support to subject teachers for ‘using ICT effectively in subject teaching’. NAME was awarded a contract to provide teacher support materials for ‘hard to teach’ topics within music.
 
Between January and March 2008, project manager Andy Murray worked with practitioners to identify hard(er) to teach areas of the KS3 music curriculum and to develop guidance and resources. The areas selected were:

Consultancy

ICT in Music Consultancy 2004-2007: In 2004, NAME was contracted by the British Educational Communications and Technology Agency (BECTA) to support the use of ICT in music at KS3 and '14-19'. this one-year contract was developed during two subsequent annual contracts intended to 'support the professional development of teachers in using ICT in music teaching and learning'. A steering group of represenatives from across the music education sector - the National Music Management Group (NMMG) was set up, and David Ashworth was appointed as Lead Consultant in Music and ICT.
