Projects: CfSA

NAME is a member of the Council for Subject Associations (CfSA). CfSA was established to act on behalf of subject associations to raise awareness of their work and promote membership. Following confirmation of funding by the DCSF for three years, the CfSA was officially launched at a meeting of Subject Associations hosted by DCSF on September 20 2007.

Currently there are over forty member associations covering over twenty different subject areas and varying stages of the curriculum. The CfSA regularly convenes meetings for representatives from all members. Recently, for example, NAME has taken part in CfSA responses to the Rose Review of the primary curriculum, as well as to the QCA-led consultation into the proposals following the final report. Some more specific projects are listed below.

Primary Subjects

This is a termly package of materials for primary schools produced by the CfSA with contributions from member associations, including NAME. Fully funded by the DCSF during the first year, and delivered free to every primary school for that year, it is now available on subscription from the CfSA website. Click here.

Primary Project Boxes

Written by representatives from subject association members of the CfSA, including NAME, the Primary Project Box is designed to offer primary schools a practical, affordable means of ensuring that their subject work with Key Stage 1 children is excellent, enjoyable and based on sound subject knowledge and pedagogy.

The theme, Our School/Our World, is written by teachers for teachers. As well as the teachers' guide: Teaching out of the box, there are five units in booklet form, each with its own multimedia CD:

Community Cohesion

The Community Cohesion Unit of the DCSF invited CfSA to lead a group of subject associations in mapping and publicising good quality resources already available for their subject that through the curriculum could be used to promote community cohesion and prevent violent extremism.

The ten subjects involved were English, Music, Art and Design, Languages, Geography, History, Personal Health and Social Education, Citizenship, Special Educational Needs and Religious Education.
