Community Cohesion
The Community Cohesion Unit of the DCSF invited CfSA to lead a group of subject associations in mapping and publicising good quality resources already available for their subject that through the curriculum could be used to promote community cohesion and prevent violent extremism.
The ten subjects involved were English, Music, Art and Design, Languages, Geography, History, Personal Health and Social Education, Citizenship, Special Educational Needs and Religious Education.
Each subject area was asked to identify 8 music resources that would support teachers in promoting community cohesion or preventing violent extremism, with 4 resources mapped for each issue, 2 in primary and 2 in secondary. The needs of special schools had to be taken into account.
The project did not expect subject associations to write new resources, but to identify existing resources and show how they could be adapted and used in those contexts. All resources had to be practical and based on real life examples (e.g. case study, lesson plan, activity sheets etc) and available to teachers without cost.
