Teaching Music

The Teaching Music website was originally constructed as part of an on-line continuing professional development (CPD) pilot project funded by the Training and Development Agency for Schools (TDA) intended ‘to develop and enhance the subject specific on-line/distance CPD opportunities available to primary and secondary teachers’. Four subjects were chosen for the pilot scheme – English, History, Music and Business Studies – with NAME and the Music Education Council (MEC) jointly running the music strand.

The TDA specified the materials and approaches should promote high quality teaching and learning across both primary and secondary phases; be user-friendly, accessible, well-designed and fit for purpose; and exploit the full potential of ICT to enhance high quality CPD opportunities.

David Ashworth leads the project with a steering group headed by NAME and MEC.

The networking site at teachingmusic.org.uk was launched at the NAME conference in October 2008. Within nine months 1800 people had signed up and there were over 400 uploaded resources and more than 700 forum postings.
