National Youth Jazz Summer School launched!

National Youth Jazz Collective is delighted to launch its 2012 National Youth Jazz Summer School, which will be held at the University of East Anglia, Norwich, Sunday 12th August to Sunday 19th August 2012.

On 1 December, at the Royal Academy of Music, Aberdeenshire, Devon, East Renfrewshire, Lincolnshire and Southampton will be awarded Diplomas of Merit for their outstanding commitment to jazz education in 2010/11.

Dartington Summer Youth Programme (DSYP) is a summer festival of creative courses in music and the arts, designed especially for young people.A series of 5-day courses for 11 to 18 year olds will take place at the University of Exeter, alongside 3-day workshops at King Edward VI Community College in Totnes for 8 to 12 year olds (@ KEVICC courses).

Big prize offered in jazz talent competition in West Country/South Wales

The Hotel chain Future Inns has just launched a region-wide competition to find the most untalented and original insigned jazz musicians across South Wales and the West Country. The winner's prize will be up to £5,000 including recording studio time and a mentoring session with a top UK jazz musician. The winning musician will also be able to perform with his or her band at Jazz@future Inns, situated in the Cabot Circus Hotel in Bristol. Dealine for entries is 28 March 2010 with a semi-final gig on May 8th and finals night to follow.

Yamaha Jazz Experience ensemble competition for 11-18s

The Yamaha Jazz Experience ensemble competition is gathering momentum. We welcome ensembles of 11-18s. To take part you need to prepare a blues and a piece of your own choosing and send in a video of both with the application form before end Jan 2010.
